Customer focus, ahoy!

I read a news item this morning titled ‘Ashok Leyland ad campaign puts customer in focus‘ and that made me sit up. Here was a tacit admission that their previous ads were not focussed on the customer or that Ashok Leyland is the first corporate whose ads put customer in focus. Either way, it goes against the grain of advertising!!

With that in perspective, I looked at some more ads and while they were impressive looking and flashy, the customer element was missing in most. It was as if that they were telling the readers ‘hey! we want to talk about us and if that is interesting to you, just buy our products’ and in a tone that they were doing a great service by making their products available to the market.

An excellent recipe for a sure and certain steep fall in the near future, regardless of how they are today!
