Yet another bandh!

The Tamil Nadu Government called a bandh on 31st March 2007 (ie today) to soft-protest against the Supreme Court stay on the Reservation Bill.

I wonder how a government can call for a bandh and that too at such a short notice!  So many people were put to hardship on account of this event and tomorrow all the parties concerned will pat themselves on the back for a successful bandh!

What has this bandh achieved except to cause loss of earnings for people like auto drivers, flower vendors, fruit sellers and thousands of such people who sustain themselves only by the money they make every day?

With such an attitude towards work and productivity, can we ever hope to be a Developed nation by 2020? Surely a pipe dream!

More over it is a bad day to hold a banth. Mar 31 is year closing and many will want to do some transactions on 31 mar so that it gets accounted in that year. Which will also add up to the productivity loss. A very sadistic way of measuring their power while they are in power. Soon they will be overthrown.

On the reservation issue? Is this a good opportunity to stand out from the division and debate and think up some fresh approaches. May be the boyand economy give the traction needed for workable fresh approaches.

It’s a pity that Buddhadeb’s intiative on day before yesterday was squandered by the CPM and leaders like VS Achuthanandan. Hopefully people will follow that up.
