South Africa the leader?

South Africa has edged Australia to reach the top slot in the One Day Internationals arena.  Click here to know more.

I understand that the margin of difference between SA and Australia was 0.1199 points and what clinched the top slot in favour of SA was their victory (!@#$?) against Sri Lanka last week.

When 2 teams are tied at a point level, it would make sense to see their performance against each other and not against a third team.  Just a few days back, SA lost to Australia by a substantial margin and we all remember that they struggled to win against Sri Lanka.

And if this is not the criterion, then why can’t they both be joint Number 1 and share the spoils?

Common sense and logic are totally missing!
