Is this a placatory measure?

I was taken aback by Maran’s statement that he intended announcing abolition of roaming charges on 3rd June 2007, TN CM Karunanidhi’s birthday and that he hopes that his successor would do it.

Is this his way of saying “I”m sorry for whatever is happened and this is my way of making amends.”?

What is the need to abolish roaming charges now and that too on MK’s birthday?  What is the relevance of these gestures?

I am also puzzled by the tenor of this statement that the successor to Maran would also be from the DMK.  Do parties have portfolios allocated to them for the entire term?

To consider that the entire cabinet would have gone in for this kind of proposals is really shocking.

What’s really happening in this country?
