Setting standards for our Leaders!

We have had several debates about making amendments in our Constitution to allow for Reservation of specific groups based on religious, sex or caste affiliations.

In order for all of these above concessions to really work in favour of the intended beneficiaries, we must first take steps to create a structure that will serve as filter so that only the best get to govern the country.

I recall my earlier post ‘Belling the Cat’ wherein I had suggested some basic criteria for our elected representatives. This has become more relevant in the current context where we have some of our MPs and MLAs finding themselves embroiled in controversies and crimes.

Before this becomes a disease that has spread all over the body, let us take some quick precautions.

Elected representatives have a certain amount of power. Doesnt matter who they are or where they come from. The old saying “absolute power currupts absolutely” is true in MOST cases. I agree with you but in all of that we still need to be careful who we elect and why.

In other news…Canada played New Zealand in the rugby last saturday and we destroyed them 63 – 13
Their coach said playing us would be a great learning experience…Im sure it was.
