Physical movements in SandhyaVandanam

This is not a regular full-fledged post like the ones on Achamanam or Pranayama but something that came out of a reflection while performing  the  SandhyaVandanam this morning.

Just visualize whatever we are doing with our body during SV.  First we start with the kukutasana during Achamanam, then we sit down for Pranayama, sankalpham and prokshanam, then we get up for the argyam, sit down again for achamanam and pranayama, then stand up for the Gayathri japam and then twice bend down for Abivadaye and then revert to the squatting and sitting posture for the achamanam before finally rising for the close.

If one recites Gayathri for 10 times and does the process leisurely, the entire SV will be over within 10 minutes at the most.  But within that span of time, observe how many times we squat, sit, get up and bend down.  Thus just these physical movements  of SV can do wonders to our body,  what to talk about the efficacy of mantras & pranayama!!

And here I see SV very relevant in today’s context where we have all become couch potatoes with a largely sedentary life style (and hence bring upon us all possible disorders and diseases).

The day will come when we do SV and Surya Namaskaram and keep doctors and medicines away, not to talk of the innumerable gyms that have sprouted all over the place!!

Praying for a glorious life for all!
