Spread the fragrance

The seed for this post came from a conversation I had with Nambi, a friend & schoolmate of mine this morning.  And what he said is not something I am hearing for the first time and certainly will not be the last one either!!

He complimented me on my blog posts and said that he makes it a point to read them almost every time.  He said it is simple, direct and conveys some message. (This post is not to trumpet about my blog)  But when I asked him “If you like them so much, why don’t you atleast leave a comment”, he replied “I wanted to but for no obvious reason I have not done so far”.

That hit me like a lightning!!

Most, if not all of us, like a lot of things and a lot of people.  It could be the delicious breakfast prepared by our mother or spouse, the neat way in which the iron man (for want of a better word) folds the clothes, the inspiring speech of an orator, the antics of a traffic constable whilst directing the traffic, the subtle expression by an author, a punch dialogue from a colleague and the list goes on and on.  While we enjoy all of these, we stop at that point.

How many times have we really told someone that we appreciated their performance, preparation,  commitment,  empathy,  concern or  love?  I am not talking about the inauthentic flattery just to get things done from the other person but about the genuine expression of appreciation for what he / she has done.  Even the high and the mighty crave for such words of appreciation when delivered honestly and remember those words for a long long time to come.

Let us not forget this simple fact of life: when we know that there are people out there who appreciate us, it makes us do better and give more of us.  I know of many remarkable flowers that withered forever because nobody took the effort to tell them  how wonderful they were.  Appreciation is like ambrosia, not only for artistes but for every human being.

Can we take that small step to let people know what they meant to us, in a way that conveys our deep appreciation and not just a “that’s great” kind of compliments.  Nothing can fulfill our lives more than making a difference to others with our expression of genuine appreciation.

Thank you Nambi for inspiring this blog post!!

Great Post Badri and one that stands the test of time, since wanting genuine appreciation is universal across all kinds of diversity in the human populace.

    Dear Badri,

Sense of Appreciation actually has it origin in the Thoughts, and then gets into the domain of Words and then onto the sphere of actions.

It is a quality or virtue which has to be imbibed, groomed and nurtured in one and made it into a sort of practice and literally into a social habit.

It ebbs or sprouts, or rather oozes out from our Neural System, gains ground and stems itself in words and later takes the shape of deeds !

    Thus Spake N Ra
