In the movie “Outsourced”, the lead character Todd has a short but intense affair with his colleague Asha in India. At the end of the romance, Asha tells Todd that it was something he said that transformed her. Blissfully unaware of what she is saying, Todd asks “what did I say?” and in response Asha tells “Until now it was all about what Asha cannot do. Asha cannot go to the university, Asha cannot work in the call centre etc etc. But you were the first one to say ‘Asha can do anything’ and that gave me a tremendous boost”
It is important to note that Todd said it casually but with authenticity and did not even remember having said that.
Having seen the power and the impact of the spoken/written word on the listeners / readers, I now resolve to take responsibility for whatever I am saying or writing. If the words I use can make a difference to someone, let it be a positive one.
What about you?
