And Arvind Kejriwal is a common man!

Image

There is absolutely no doubt that Arvind Kejriwal (AK) has become a meteor in the Indian political scenario!  But is he a common man as eloquently described by many?  Let’s look at this description deeply.

  1. For those uninitiated, AK is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur where he studied Mechanical Engineering.  As many would know, getting admission into the prestigious IIT’s is no mean task and is a feat done by a few thousand out of lakhs of applicants.  And AK is a common man!
  2. AK then joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and served in the Income Tax department in different roles. And AK is a common man!
  3. It now gets even more interesting.  AK was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2006 for Emergent Leadership.  This Award is considered to be Asia’s Nobel Prize and has been instituted by Rockfeller Brothers.  Let’s leave out the conspiracy theories for a moment and let’s take a look at the awardees.  I see the names of Acharya Vinobha Bhave, Baba Amte, MS Subbulakshmi, Jaiprakash Narayan, Verghese Kurien, Dr Shantha of Cancer Institute amongst many others from different countries in Asia.  The reason for giving AK this award in 2006 is “his contribution to the enactment of the Right to Information Act and for his efforts to empower the poorest citizens of India”.  While the nation came to know of AK only during Anna Hazare’s movement in 2011, the award jury had identified him for his contribution as early as 2006!!  It would be interesting to know that the RTI Act was passed by the Parliament only in 2005!!  You can draw your own conclusions.  And AK is a common man!
  4. I do not know if someone has made the effort to calculate the amount of media time that AK has garnered in the last two years, ever since he has been one of the key figures in the Anna movement.  But nobody will doubt the fact that he has received extensive coverage, mostly positive, from the so-called mainstream media (MSM).  And AK is a common man!
  5. He made outrageous promises (including passing of the Jan Lokpal Bill on 29th December 2013 which incidentally is today) as part of his party’s manifesto and yet the media called him a politician with a difference.  And AK is a common man!
  6. I have lost count of the number of flip-flops that he and his team members have done in the last few months and yet no one is even making a mention of them.  And AK is a common man!
  7. AK called both Congress and BJP names and yet has taken the support of Congress to form the government.  And AK is a common man!
  8. Thousands of people travel on the Delhi Metro everyday and nobody pays them any attention.  But AK takes the metro to attend his swearing-in ceremony and the media is gaga about it.  And AK is a common man!

A request to all thinking Indians and to the media (if they are willing to listen).

Call AK as a shrewd politician, strategist, Chanakya, messiah or anything laudatory.  But please do not insult the common man by calling AK as one.

Put in other words Ordinary(Comman) man with Extraordinary skill that include all you listed. Such people are only called Leaders. BTW Media is not a fool to give Airtime without their interest of TRP, AK is more talked about in Social Media even more than NaMo … All this because one extraordinary act he did ‘Taking On the Power and Mighty’ in their turf which you and I only wished we did …. Rest all you mentioned are Ordinary … He represents Comman Man aspirations who may not be Comman and hence can still be called a AAM ADMI

      Srini,

If a comment about AK can get Srini to respond to a blog post immediately after it is published, that is a great achievement on the part of AK!! AK has done well to capitalize on the frustrations of the common man and ride on that bandwagon.

Now that he is in the seat of power, let us wait and see if he is serious about his crusade or he becomes one of the ‘powerful and mighty’. Do not get swayed by stunts.

If you are saying that the complacency of the big parties must be shaken, I am fully with you. I really admire Arvind Kejriwal for accurately capturing the mood of the people and riding that bandwagon. Now that he has become the CM, he must perform.

    A Frog in Well ?

In Sanskrit , it is called , ” Koop Mandook ”

A frog which cannot see the Sun rise ( – in Sanskrit , Arvind stands for Sun )

There is no other explanation for Nitin Gadkari to allege that a leading industrialist brokered a deal between AAP and Congress

There is no other explanation for Dr Harshvardhan to say ,

” AAP will fail to deliver on its promises ”

The leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly ( who , in his post-swearing in speech , Arvind described as a ” good man ” ) , could not have dreamed that Arvind will motivate 50,000 Delhi-ites to chant ,

” I will neither offer bribe , nor take bribe ”

The good Doctor could not have realized that , after this slogan , Arvind need not worry about fulfilling AAP’s poll promises

With this slogan , people of Delhi will themselves fulfill their own dreams !

Even as experts ( – and some eminent non-experts ) , were debating till late in the night , how AAP will fail ,

    > Red beacons disappeared from official cars ( Magic Wand ? )

    > Powerful bureaucrats were , unceremoniously shunted out

Do the feudal lords of Congress / BJP realize that , if AAP manages to cleanse the Delhi Administration of corruption , then people don’t care if AAP fails to deliver on all of its other poll promises ?

Most dangerous / unnerving thought !

    Most calamitous prophesy !

    Most certain obliteration !

    Nitinji ,

Remember that 26 year old dalit girl Rakhi Birla defeating a veteran Congress Minister in Delhi ?

You would do well not to contest your 2014 Lok Sabha seat against Anjani Damania from Gadh Chiroli or Mumbai’s Worli !

People without homes , electricity , water , schools , toilets , hospitals etc , have sounded the death-knell of the corrupts !

    Can you hear it ?

    A new Sun has risen

The sooner you come out of your Mandook and see it , the better !

Sonia / Rahul have seen it

That is why they want Adarsh Scam Report ” re-considered ” !

      Mr Hemen,

Thanks for elevating Sonia and Rahul above this frog! God save you and this sun.

I do not understand why you are talking to Nitin Gadkari in the comment to my post.

My prayers for sanity to return to this country.

The cynical side of the so-called highly literate and professionally qualified people from the formal educational stream has come out vividly in the open vide this Blog post !

And as long as we do not appreciate the boldness and braveness of such persons, India will go to dogs, and will pledge our Nation’s future to the Corrupt Political Parties !

And as long as we do not hail the courage and conviction of such persons who have willed to cleanse the political system of ours, India’s future is very dim and bleak !

And as long as we do not support such persons who had dared and cared to jump into this rotten political set up of ours nothing much can be achieved in the days ahead !

And as long as we do not wish well such individuals who are a rare breed in this present times, even a ray of hope that our country seems to have will not see its dawn !

Thus Spake The New Age Sage !

      Ramesh,

I did not call AK any names but just gave some examples of how he is not a common man. I am amused that you have not bothered to counter my statements but have branded me as cynical.

If this is the support of guys like you that AK deserves, so be it!!
